About NRCS

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is a federal agency and a valued partner of the Osceola-Lake Conservation District. We share office space at the USDA Reed City Service Center, fostering collaboration and strengthening our shared commitment to local conservation efforts.

This close partnership allows us to support one another and guide clients in identifying the conservation programs best suited to their needs.

Both NRCS and Conservation District staff provide technical assistance rooted in sound science, tailored to meet each landowner's unique goals. NRCS also offers financial assistance for a variety of conservation practices.

Participation in NRCS programs is entirely voluntary, ensuring that support is customized to align with your specific needs.

Common NRCS Programs in Our Region

  • Green tractor harvesting hay in a field with blue sky and scattered clouds.

    Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) provides agricultural producers and landowners with technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices on their land. This program is an excellent opportunity for those new to conservation practices, offering support to improve agricultural operations while promoting healthier soil, cleaner air and water, and enhanced wildlife habitat.

  • A wooden birdhouse attached to a tree surrounded by branches of blooming white flowers against a background of green leaves and blue sky.

    Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)

The Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) supports agricultural producers and landowners in enhancing existing conservation practices. Participants collaborate with NRCS to assess resource concerns, develop a five-year conservation plan, and implement improvements such as cover cropping, nutrient management, wildlife habitat restoration, and precision irrigation. CSP offers annual payments based on conservation performance.

  • Open field with green grass, blue sky, and white fluffy clouds.

    Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE)

The Wetlands Reserve Easements (WRE) program helps private and tribal landowners protect, restore, and enhance wetlands previously degraded by agricultural use. As a component of the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program, WRE supports long-term conservation by improving water quality, reducing flooding, and providing critical habitat for migratory birds, threatened and endangered species, and other wetland-dependent wildlife.
